JIM STRUDWICK APPOINTED MALE WELFARE OFFICER
We’re delighted that Jim Strudwick has kindly agreed to assist Hannah Jackson in the role of Welfare Officer for Yate AC.
Having Jim on board in this role means that club members/families now have the option of chatting in confidence to either a male or female with any concerns.
Thank you Jim. And thank you Hannah!
For those who don’t know Jim, he introduces himself here:
“I have been involved in athletics in Avon for over 30 years. In that time I have held a number of administrative posts including Chairman, Vice Chairman and Treasurer of the Avon Athletic Association, Chairman and Secretary of Clevedon Athletic Club and am currently Secretary of the Avon Schools Athletic Association.
I have also been active as a team manager, performing that role for Bristol and West and Yate and District AC, for Team Avon and for Avon Schools.
I am a qualified England Athletics coach specialising in hurdles and sprints and have been fortunate enough to coach athletes to English Schools standard.
My reason for volunteering for this role is that my experience of athletics has shown me that there is a need for clubs to have someone who is independent of coaches, team managers or parents for athletes to talk to in confidence. The well being of athletes in a number of sports has been highlighted recently in the press and television and we need to ensure that we have a safe and supportive environment at Yate and District AC.”
