Disability Blog-No4

25/07/2015/in Para & Adaptive/by Jeremy Dale

Long time no blog right?!!

I’ve had a busy few months so that’s the reason why there hasn’t been a blog from me for a while so hopefully you’ll accept my apologies, I don’t want to upset the avid Beth Blog Readers amongst you!!

This weekend sees the Anniversary Games in London being held. I would particularly encourage you all to watch the Parallel Success events they can really give you a great insight to what can be achieved through overcoming physical barriers and with the right mindset. Channel 4 Sunday at 2-00pm is the place to go!! It’s something I hope I will be able to partake in one day. I’ve recently realised that my Cerebral Palsy doesn’t give me limitations but it gives me so much more happiness. Without Cerebral Palsy I wouldn’t have met Dr Tim Button who is my Chiropractor from Cleve Chiropractic and Next Step in Mangotsfield. The work Tim and his team do is amazing. Chiropractic treatment for CP is fantastic. Tim uses Chiropractic and compliments this with sports massage to help not just me but all of his patients. Check his clinic out!! Definitely a world class chiropractor with a huge heart for all his patients. Tim saw that I didn’t have the best attitude towards my cerebral palsy and put me in contact with  Mark Lodge (my coach) and with Mark’s help and support  I’ve gone from saying ‘I can’t’ to ‘I CAN!!’ Sprinting has been a game changer for me and  I can honestly say that it has helped my condition no end. Drs have noticed how strong my CP is getting and have encouraged me to keep running…. I never intend to stop anyway I love it so much. It’s the best thing in the world when I step onto the track. From my own experience  and what it has taught me, I would urge anyone with a medical condition to never give up in going for their dreams even if it feels impossible. I know this because if someone had said to me that 3 years ago I would be sprinting I would have laughed in their face. Now the joke is on me… I love it. Having a disability doesn’t limit me at all… it gives me so many great opportunities than I could ever have imagined it would. I’ve even spoken at the House of Lords about it!! Not many people get to do that now do they?!!

So whatever you think your limitations are in life.. think again and turn them around for good.  What you deem to be your weakness is most definitely your strongest point. We normally find good fortune from what we think our own misfortunes are. So be positive and remain positive. Life is way too short to think our own imperfections are limitations. We are perfectly made for the purpose we are here on this Earth for. Live life and have fun!!

Over and out!!

Beth

Yate and District AC Sprints and Hurdles 06/09/15 Competition

24/07/2015/in Yate Sprints & Hurdles/by Jeremy Dale

Our penultimate event for the season will be the Sprints and Hurdles open at Yate on Sunday 06/09/15.

This is a popular meet, which always proves to be enjoyable weather you are looking for a final PB to finish off the season, coming back from injury, or may be your first event to see what it is all about ready for next season. Its definitely worth entering, and may be trying a new event, trying hurdles for the first time? All races are seeded by time so if you do not have one already you will be put in with others who do not have one either.

This is a week before the last Avon track and field, so it could be you want a run out before hand or your event is not covered in the last round of the AT&F, so its your last chance to do your favourite.

Entry forms are attached here so ensure you enter early to avoid the holiday mishaps and forget whilst you’re away!

We especially urge those who are not currently selected by team managers to enter as this is your opportunity to register your times for them to notice!

Please Support your club event.

Avon Track & Field round 2 Gloucester 12/07/15

Well what a busy 8 days! On 12/07/15 we went to Gloucester for round 2 of the AT&F league meet, and witnessed another terrific performance by the team. Despite my muck up over times, (sorry Jamie and Jamie) we won! I cannot remember the last time we were first, as usually Team Bath take that honour, so well done to you all. Again there was a great team spirit, athletes from U11 to vets performing well, doing events outside their usual comfort zone, (and secretly enjoying it?) officials, team managers and parents/helpers all doing their essential bit. Results should be on line today but for now I have attached the team points. Next round is at home on 2nd August so please make sure you compete if selected and not on holiday!

Combined team results

YDL Lower age Group Yeovil 18/07/15

On Saturday 18th our U13 and U15 team went to Yeovil for the final round of the LAG YDL, the results are on line now but we believe as a team we came second! Another great team effort, with special mention to Tracy John for stepping in as team manager whilst Lesley was away supporting her daughter in the European age group Triathlon championships! Again a great team effort on the track and great fun off it and on the coach back!

South West Championships Exeter 19/07/15

Well done to all those who made the trip down to Exeter, this was ‘normal’ for some, but their biggest event yet for others and a great experience! Attached is the list of our athletes who competed and their positions (sorry if I missed anyone) the results were on line Monday morning which is pretty impressive! Well done to all our athletes and congratulations to all for their performances and those who medalled and stood on the podium/can claim to be SW Champions!

Catch up on ESAA National Championships & AT&F Round 2

12/07/2015/in Avon Track and Field, English Schools/by Jeremy Dale

ESAA Finals @ Gateshead

Catching up on the finals at the ESAA National Championships @ Gateshead yesterday the  results are as follows.

Inter Girls 1500m, all our girls got into the finals!

Ellie Wallace was 3rd in her heat in 4.45.17 then finished 4th in the final in 4.37.62 missing a medal by a mere 0.65 sec!

Hannah Hobbs was 5th in her heat in 4.46.14 and followed that up with 6th in the final in 4.38.95!

Ellie leather was 4th in her heat in 4.42.10 and 7th in the final in 4.39.41! An excellent result for all of them well done!

Daniel Brooks was 6th in the JB 100m final in 11.52, whilst Adam Brooks was 13th in the IB high jump final with 1.87m well done to them both. It is great to see so many of our athletes competing at National Finals to my reckoning thats 10!!! but please correct me if I have missed any one out.

AT&F

AT&F @ Gloucester 12/07/15, on a bright but windy and showery day we had a really great time! With many away at the ESAA National Final, it was great to see a mix of regular and new athletes in the team. What was also evident to see, as well as Pb’s and good performances  was such a great team spirit, from the U11’s right through to the seniors, team managers and officials. Many athletes were also throwing or running distances not their first choice (or second or third)! as well as their preferred event & it was really fantastic to see the end result with our ladies winning the U15, U17 and senior 4*100m relay! for example. We won’t mention any one by name as you all did so well for the team, but all we can say is thank you very much to all the athletes, team managers, parents, helpers and officials, we hope you enjoyed the day.

Results are not out yet but as soon as they are we will let you know. Next round is back at home @ Yate on 02/08/15 please respond asap to team selections and make it even better!

YDL UAG Swansea Sunday 26/07/15

Sandrea and Rachael have asked all those selected for the next UAG match on 26/07/15 at Swansea to make a special effort to compete. We are in a position to potentially make the final this year so every point counts. There will be a coach there (and back)! so transport is not a problem. Reaching the National Final would be a real achievement and experience, please do your bit if asked. Thank you.

South West Championships entries close 5th July!!! Please read!!!

03/07/2015/in Championships, SW Champs/by Jeremy Dale

I am not too sure how well publicised the SW Champs at Exeter on 19th July have been and in particular the team selection, which includes quite a few Yate Athletes! Please double check the attached team Sheets and Standards, as weather you have been selected or are close to the standard and want to enter, you have to go on line and enter either way! If you are selected and want to enter another event too you can do this as well. Please note these team sheets are for Avon athletes, I am aware some of our athletes have competed for other counties, if this is the case still enter just make sure you note the county that you have competed for this year rather than Avon.
