Hope to see you there.
Well done to Yvette Westwood and Robert Dakin for their PBs at the Midland indoor open on 10/01/15.
Yvette was second in the 60m with a PB of 7.79, whilst Robert in his first year at U17 got his PB down to 7.78 in the 60m which is a great start to his season.
Congratulations to Lesley Nunn who has a birthday today, no doubt she will be at the track tonight as usual rather than accepting Stuarts’ ‘offer’ of a meal out!?
It’s that time of year again, when what’s left of the Avon Schools AA committee swing into action to put out teams for the South West Championships and then English Schools.
Normally there would be the Avon championships when each race would end with letters being given out to top finishing athletes so that Lesley and her team could make selections and send out invitations to compete for the county. Except the Avon championships were cancelled. This was because the BGS games field where it was going to be held is really suffering under the weather and their groundsman couldn’t face the damage that would be done by over 300 young athletes and their parents.
The selection of the Avon team has been done – on the basis of the area championships and Power of Ten. Now letters have to be sent out to all the selected athletes – a job which Lesley always does.
But she didn’t have any of their addresses!!!!
Imagine the chaos on our dining table as she searches her records, emails and phones and generally badgers anyone she can think of to come up with 80+ addresses. As I write, there are still nine who could live anywhere. Schools are understandably a bit nervous about giving out students’ information, but most have bitten the bullet and told her what she needed to know.
One school, which had better remain anonymous, instead of answering Lesley’s questions, sent back a question about why someone completely different hadn’t been selected. Well – guess what? – she just wasn’t good enough.
The session on Saturday morning 17/01/15 is cancelled as Circadian Trust have shut the track due to snow on the track.
The Midland league dates and venues have been confirmed, so keep these dates free and contact Matt Muggeridge if you want to be considered for selection.

Just to let you know our own Y Bay is up and running, it is for club members to buy and sell kit etc to each other. Ideal after all those Christmas presents, what can you do with those shoes too small to wear, now you know!
The other item of news is that BSTech have sorted WiFi in the club house, so no longer do parents have to stare out the window at the rain! Have a coffee and do something useful! Get the pass word from Katie or Callum behind the Bar.
Here’s hoping that you all had a great Christmas and a happy New Year.
Lesley and I are beginning to recover from the colds and coughs that have plagued us over the holiday. Lesley in particular was feeling dreadful on Christmas Day and it did her no favours that we were having to walk from our hotel to son’s house and back again. I’ve no doubt that standing about at Kempton Park all Boxing Day did me no good at all – quite apart from the money I contributed to various bookies’ retirement funds.
Training begins again this week, so no doubt we will be seeing you at some point.
I have an email in my inbox from Pete Jackson about possible dates for the Avon Track and Field League. So that will be sorted soon and then we can have a clear picture of how the 2015 season will be looking.
This is going to be the new place for the blog, which I hope means that commenting will be easier. I hope you will comment to let me know how you feel about things around the club and stuff that I’ve written. I guess it also means that my readers in Germany, the USA and South Korea will be disappointed, but – hey – I’ve done my bit for world peace.
Wishing all our members a happy new year and a great 2015 season!
Sunday 04/01/15 saw our first competitive outing with , Tom Pallot, Annie Lewis, Jess and Jonny Mead, Laura Cook, Sofie Andersen, Lucy Conibear, Jack Moore and Isobel Parry all at the Cardiff Indoor open incorporating the SW indoor champs. The results will be on the power of 10, but congratulations to Tom for his Gold and Bronze and to Annie for her Bronze, and hard luck to Jonny who lost out for the bronze medal by o.o1 of a second! For most it was their first indoor or a new distance/age group to get used to, but everyone enjoyed the day and now have a time to work on. The event was well run and well supported, with a group of about 15 Yate parents/family members there.
Next event will be 22/02/15 at the NIA Birmingham (now know as the Barclays Arena?)
Happy Christmas and a great New Year to all our members, hope you are having a good break. For those who have entered the Cardiff open best of luck, see you there, hope it all goes well.
