Team Avon came second – their highest finish ever!
Team Avon won a very secure second place in the YDL UAG National Final. This was a terrific team effort and we can be proud of all our athletes.
Almost all our athletes won at least one medal and achieved personal best performances. Louis Tutcher won the Norma Blaine male ‘Athlete of the Match’ with a Grade 1 discus throw of 46.73m in the U17 men’s event. All in all, this was an OUTSTANDING achievement by the team and each athlete is to be congratulated on their contribution.
All four clubs within the composite team, were represented which was great, with athletes willing to step up and cover gaps where they could. There were 14 Gold medals won in the A string events: Willa Gibb U20 100H, Jake Cover U20 110H, Steve Kerfoot U20 2000S/C, Toby Conibear U20 Hammer, Megan Hornung U20 3000m, Jacob Dibble U20 Javelin, Sophie Hornung U20 Pole Vault, Lily Bailey U20 High Jump, Dominic Murray U20 High Jump, Dylan Stoneman U17 1500S/C, Louis Tutcher U17 Discus and Shot, Ethan Canning U17 Long jump, Matt Page U17 Hammer.
There were 20 gold medals won in B string events, as well as numerous silver and bronze medals.
Team Avon’s team of officials was the most qualified team at the final. Our officials, as usual, supported us extremely well and their expertise was very much appreciated by the athletes.
Team Avon has a tremendous team spirit. This result should encourage all our athletes and their coaches, to keep training hard this winter and we look forward to an equally successful 2023 season.
