SPORT PSYCHOLOGY WORKSHOP
At the end of June it was a great to run a workshop for the club on goal setting and setting expectations for competition.
There were a lot of new faces and some that have attended before.
The workshop focused on setting some long term and outcome based goals and breaking these down into more manageable goals.
When broken down these can give focus and direction in training as well shift focus onto things in competition that are controllable and relate to your own performance.
There were plenty of group discussions as well as individual ones with myself.
Those that attended were enthusiastic and discussed in detail how they would go about trying to achieve their goals going forward.
I would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed and I look forward to the next club workshop on Tuesday 26th July, at 8pm.
ABOUT THE NEXT SESSION
The workshop will be on managing pressure before a competition.
The idea will be that for those who attend they will understand how pressure can influence performance and learn a breathing technique to be able help and manage this to perform well.
Attendees will hopefully have a better understanding of how they prepare for a potentially high pressure competition and get the chance to practice a technique that could help cope with this.
The proposal is to start this workshop, similar to last time, at 8pm to give the opportunity for as many athletes as possible to attend.
If you or your athletes are interested in attending it would be fantastic if coaches could potentially offer a “lighter” session that evening to entice as many as people to attend training and be available to take part in the workshop if they would like to.
