WINTER COMPETITION

The 2025 outdoor Track & Field season is now over.

Club members are reminded there are a few other competition options open throughout the winter:

INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Entries are now open for the two days of the SW Indoor T&F Championships for U13s/U15s/U17s:
Sunday 7th December: https://www.welshathletics.org/en/competition/current/view/welsh-athletics-junior-indoor-open-day-1-2526
Sunday 11th January: https://www.welshathletics.org/en/competition/current/view/welsh-athletics-junior-indoor-open-2-2025-26
Details of the Cardiff Met. Christmas Cracker event on Sunday 14th December are not yet available. The meeting will, however, include the SW 3000m Championships for U17s/U20s/Seniors, Men and Women. Details of the other SW U20/Senior Championships events are to follow.

SPORTSHALL

Sportshall athletics is just what it says – indoor athletics taking place in a sports hall.
Every year, we compete in the Gloucestershire Sportshall league in three competitions through November and December. The competitions are open to all U11, U13 and U15 athletes. Its fun and friendly with a great team atmosphere, and you can compete as an individual and as part of a team. Each Sportshall competition consists of sprints, throws, jumps, agility and plenty of relays.
For those who have competed through the summer season it’s a way of continuing with competitive athletics over the winter. And for those who haven’t yet competed it’s a fun introduction to representing Yate Athletic Club.
All children attending U11 academy sessions will practice the Sportshall events later on in October, so they’ll be familiar with the events and hopefully keen to compete.
The dates are all Sundays:
• 16th November – Stroud
• 30th November – TBC
• 14st December – TBC
Under 11s will take place in the morning and U13/15 in the afternoon.
The Team Manager for all 3 age groups (U11, U13 and U15) is Jo Raper.
Trudie Thornell and Nick Bishop are the Team Captains for the U11 teams and will be helping with the organisation and supporting the athletes on the day.
If you’re interested in competing in any of the age categories or have any questions, please contact Jo asap. JoRaper19@gmail.com / 07799 410608.
Further info about Sportshall
There are three competitions, each with different events. All athletes have a go at all events. The events include:
Running (2 lap/4 lap/ 6 lap)
Standing long and triple jump
Standing vertical jump
Speed bounce
Obstacle relay
Flat relay
Shot
Medicine ball throw
The age groups for Sportshall stay the same as the previous summer season so are:
U11: Years 4, 5 & 6
U13: Years 7 & 8
U15: Years 9 & 10
A team is made up of six athletes for U11s and four for U13s and U15s. But all athletes who want to compete will be able to as we can enter part teams and multiple teams.
You need to be a member of Yate AC with a club vest in order to compete. Each competition costs £6 per athlete but the club pay for this, so there’s no additional costs (once you’re a member with a vest!).
The top three individuals in each gender age category and also the top three teams in each of these categories will receive medals.

CROSS COUNTRY

The new cross country season is about to start, if you like the idea of running round fields and woods in the mud and rain, then get in touch!
As Yate AC is not an affiliated cross country/road club we have an arrangement with Westbury Harriers (see websites for details) where any Yate member can join Westbury Harriers, free of charge, to do cross country during the winter season.
All you need to do is complete the membership details for Westbury, this can be found in the Yate membership page(https://yateac.co.uk/yate-district-ac-membership/)
First races start in October and go right through until mid March.
