Congratulations

to Owen Garrett (Coach Paul Filer) and Louis Tutcher (Coach Matt Spicer), who were selected to represent England at the inaugural “Pickering Memorial Throws International” held at Loughborough University on 27th May 2024.

Also, to Coach Matt Spicer, who was selected to be the Hammer Throw Team Manager

Both athletes were competing in the U18 age group category, as they are prospects for the U18 European Championships.

Louis thew the 5kg hammer a new PB of 66.26m in round three giving him the confidence to really attack the 69m European Championships Qualifying Standard in the remaining rounds, but unfortunately on this occasion his efforts weren’t rewarded.

Owen, who had surpassed 50m with the 1.5kg discus earlier in the month, at the County Championships, took a little longer to find his form on this occasion, recording an excellent mark of 49.41m in the sixth and final round.  The qualification standard set by UK athletics for the European Championships is 54.50m.

We would like to wish both athletes all the very best as they strive for their qualifying standards, but are very proud of both for what they have already achieved.
