LYDL TEAM MANAGERS’ REPORT – MATCH 3 YATE
23 JUNE 2024
In our third match we managed to finish 4th with Swindon in 3rd place only 5 points ahead! This was a massive improvement from our last match where we finished in 6th place. We avoided immediate relegation, but it will mean that we will need to fight for our place to stay up next season and avoid relegation by putting all our best performances over the 3 matches to compete on paper.
There were some fantastic performances on the day and a total of 28 PBs from the U15s part of the team, not to mention all the EA gradings recorded.
Ciaran Merrett finished 1st in both the hammer with a PB of 46.28 and the discus 38.73. These distances put him 1st in the South-West for both events and 7th overall in the UK for hammer, and 10th for discus.
Zachory Ho finished 2nd in the 100m with a personal best time of 12.61. Zachory also ran a pb or 25.38 in the 200m. Newcomer, Freddie Hollier, running in his first ever club race, ran a personal best of 11.95 to win a non-scoring 100m. I think you maybe scoring in the paper match Freddie as this performance would have won the A race! PBs also for Rhys Gore and Edwin Iwhiwhu.
Over 200m, Harry Scherer-Cowell, Nico Nesbit and Lily Walkey all ran pbs against stiff opposition. PBs also in the 300m races for Raad Ardalan, Layla Gardiner and Trudi Raper Thornell.
Middle distance runners in the 1500m races were able to gain respectable points for the team with Will Parsons (4 mins 52), pb, Sid Davis (5mins 04.23), pb, and Brooke Michael running 5 mins 34.17 knocking 5 seconds off her pb.
Other personal bests on the day from:
75 Hurdles: Tsz yu Chang, 13.66 seconds
High Jump: Will Parsons, 1.45 metres
Long Jump: Bella Howell, 4.15 metres
Javelin: Oliver King, 16.60 metres
Newcomer, Rebecca Latham-Roberts threw 29.60 in the U15Gs hammer event. This takes her to 5th place in the Southwest rankings in her age-group.
Team spirit on the day was amazing, with new athletes stepping in when some of our usual athletes were unable to compete. It was lovely to see so many new faces on the team this time and the future looks very bright for our junior athletes.
In the U13s team we have seen a massive growth of new members who have wanted to compete for the club, so we put out a big team who tried to fill all the event gaps. There were also amazing results on the day, including 22 PBs from the U13s.
Joseph Sutherland ran a fast 75m and 150m in 9.55 seconds/18.88 seconds. This means Joseph in 1st in the SW and 4th in the UK rankings for both events.
Elizabeth Hutchings won the 1200m event in 3 mins 52.49 seconds, which places her 1st in the SW and 7th in the UK rankings for her age-group. Elizabeth also got a PB in the 70m sprint hurdles, (13.07 seconds). Maybe a future steeplechaser here!
