Three Medals for Yate Athletes representing England at SIAB International
Congratulations to two Yate AC Athletes Izzy Walkey and Henry Watson who represented England Schools at the SIAB International this weekend.
The SIAB (Schools International Athletics Board) International is an annual event that sees the best of the U17 schools athletes from England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland compete against each other. This year it was Wales turn to host the event.
Izzy and Henry met the rest of the England Team at the team hotel in Swansea on Friday evening before making their way to Carmarthen track by coach on Saturday morning.
Unfortunately the summer sun did not make an appearance and it rained for most of the day resulting in difficult conditions for the athletes. Despite the weather a really good team spirit was shown from all of the athletes taking part.
Part of the England kit included a Dry Robe which came in really handy competing on a wet grey day in Wales.
After a really close race Izzy took home Silver in the 100m finishing in 12:04, just behind the Welsh Athlete. Izzy was also part of the medal winning England 4X100 relay team, who also took home Silver
Henry got off to a great start in the javelin with a first throw of 58:77m which was enough to see him take the Gold Medal for England.
There were some great performances and England Schools won the overall competition finishing with 471 points ahead of Ireland on 321 points.
It is also worth noting that had Owen Garrett would also have been selected, had he not been competing for Great Britain at the European U18 Championships.
