Clubs Oldest Record Broken!
Way back in 1983, when Yate & District Athletic Club was founded, the club weren’t active in any leagues.
However, some athletes were able to compete in Open Meetings and Championships and club records were set.
During the following 43 years, pretty much all of these records have been surpassed, but one has stubbornly remained. The U15 Shot Put, set by Neil Hayne.
All of that changed however, 0n the 12th April of this year, when one of our newest athletes, Berkay Altuntas threw 13.29m in Swindon.
With the recent change in age groups, from odd to evens, it needs to be clarified that, although Berkay is now a first year U16, he is still 14 years old and would have been inside the old U15 category.
Just for added measure, the previous week, on the 4th April Berkay also broke the club’s Discus record (Ciaran Merrett) with a throw of 44.60m at Down Grange Athletics Track, in Basingstoke.
Huge congratulations Berkay!
