PILOT EVENT RESULTS & REPORT
The sun was shining today as the athletes arrived for our pilot competition. The event went very smoothly, and is was so great to hear that starting gun again!
Typically, there was even a strong headwind (-3.5) on the track to welcome us all back!
Just under 70 athletes, from around a dozen local clubs, competed across 100m, 200m, sprint hurdles, javelin and hammer.
As well as Martin Rush, the England Athletics Head of Coaching and Athletic Development, we were also joined by athletics “royalty”, David Hemery CBE, DL!
This was never going to be an ordinary competition, as we dealt with the problems a global pandemic can cause! Signs and direction arrows have been placed around the venue, a dedicated warm up area was created, temperatures were checked on the gate, only alternate lanes were used, and throwers had to retrieve their own implements, to name some of the measures it takes to be “covid secure”.

Results - July 19thCLUB RECORD
The outstanding performance of the day was a new club record in the U17 hammer by Owen Merrett, with a huge throw of 65.03m. The original record of 64.18m was one of the clubs oldest, having been set 31 years ago! This distance has put Owen 42nd on the “All-time” Rankings. Well done Owen.
PHOTO FINISH
The day provided the club its first opportunity to try the new photo finish equipment. This has received a ‘thumbs up’ from Graham.
Thanks to everyone who came for supporting the meeting and complying with all the procedures and precautions necessary. England Athletics have a feedback form to gather information about your experiences. The link to compete the survey has been emailed to athletes and officials
And of course, a huge thank you to all the hard work put in behind the scenes by our committee leading up to the event, and to all the officials and other volunteers who worked hard throughout the day making it a successful event.
Hopefully there will be more competition to come!
