Sports Psychology
Upcoming Mind Coaching Workshops with Will Bridges
In December we said goodbye, and a huge thank you, to Jordan Lewis who has worked with us a for a number of years. But our commitment to training our mind as well as our bodies remains!
We would like to introduce you to Will Bridges, who will be working with us this coming year as a Sports Mind Coach. Will introduces himself:
“I completed a sports psychology degree at Loughborough University and would love to work as a sports psychologist as a long-term career as I believe there is so much potential for growth in performance and wellbeing in athletes by helping them to better understand their mind and how to use it effectively. I currently work as a mentor for learners with special educational needs at SGS College and I love helping to get the best out of people. I enjoy a range of sports, particularly rugby, rock climbing, and mountaineering and I also used to train and occasionally competed with Yate Athletic Club in the 800 and 400 metres.”
Will has been running a series of workshops to get you competition ready. All sessions take place in the clubhouse from 8:15pm and are open to all athletes, parents and coaches:
- Thursday 22nd February: Progressive muscular Relaxation and Breathing Techniques – Learning effective ways of optimising relaxation to reduce anxiety
- Tuesday 5th March (tbc): Pre-performance Routines- Learning how to ‘get in the zone’ to enhance concentration and reduce anxiety
- Thursday 28th March: Positive Self-Talk- Considering ways of communicating to yourself to improve positivity and confidence
- Tuesday 2nd April: Cognitive & Emotional Restructuring- learning how to reframe your thoughts and feelings to improve motivation, confidence, and anxiety
- Thursday 25th April: General Session- Considering abstract ideas that can improve help to improve performance and go back over some previous techniques with an eye to future competitions
For more information please email Will at bridgeswill01@gmail.com
We feel very fortunate to have this area of expertise in our club that our athletes can access for free! We would strongly encourage all athletes, coaches and parents to come along – it’s so important to look after your mind and who knows, it may just give you an advantage of your competitors this coming season!
