Great news! Our Junior Academy sessions are beginning to get up and running again – albeit looking slightly different than they did before.
Calling all parents of athletes in school years 6 to 9!
Competition season is nearly here and we bet there are many parents out there, who are new to the sport, who lots of unanswered questions!
The Academy, in accordance with UK Athletic guidelines. is committed to providing coaching in the majority of the athletic disciplines. This approach gives young athletes the broad base of abilities to allow them to compete in a wider range of events before specialising at a later date. Whilst it is accepted athletes should not specialise too early we also recognise that, no matter how interesting we make the sessions, some do not have to interest or aptitude for all events. In these cases we are always available to review the young athletes expectations. The Academy accepts athletes from the age of 8 to 15 and cost £3.00 each session, on a pay as you go basis, there is no need to pre or block book, all though we encourage regular attendance to maintain progress. The session takes place at the Yate Outdoor Sports Complex, which could be the athletes first opportunity to run, jump and throw at a ‘proper’ stadium, is an hour long starting at 7.30 with a group warm up and then athletes go into their age specific groups for coaching in that evenings activity, which varies each week.
