The indoor season will soon be with us , so here are two links to the Midland Counties AA (Birmingham) and Cardiff Met (Cardiff) both of whom put on great events. If you have never done anything like this before have a chat with your coach, but they are definitely worth having a go. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t enjoyed it!

Looking further ahead our Sprints and Hurdles will be held at Yate on 8th April 2018, entries fill up really quickly, so you will need to apply within hour/days of entries opening (we will let you know nearer the time), again put the date in your diary and talk to you coach about what events to do, but remember this is one of the first opportunities of getting a time registered on power of 10 so you know how winter training has gone and the Club Team Managers can see what events you do and forms the basis of their team selection process for the early league matches.
Thank you to Graham for organising such a great event, the emails of appreciation of how well it was organised keep coming in. (I was going to put them all on this post but it would make it very long)
The day itself went well with great weather (albeit a bit windy at times) and close racing with many PB’s.
Interestingly 25% of the entry were from Yate and District AC, athletes from local clubs and colleges and from further afield, Wales, Somerset, Devon, Wiltshire and beyond making the trip.
Thank you to all those who helped, moving hurdles, track judging, time keepers, signing on, in the photo finish/judges room, doing results etc.
Just in case you were not aware Graham did a great job and had the results on Power of 10 earlier in the week.
Just as a bit of interest attached is an example photo finish to show what actually happens after every race to ensure the results are accurate.
Looking forward to the first YDL LAG at Yate this Sunday!
Just a quick thank you for those members who turned up on Saturday to help get ready for the new season.
The Long/triple jump pits were swept and dug, new Discus, hammer, shot and Block racks were put together, new competition blocks sorted out, the sun even shone which is always a bonus. Thank you.
With our Sprints and Hurdles open having filled up so quickly, you may need some more ‘opens’ to attend, to get this years performances onto Power of 10. You can always check ‘power of 10’ ‘fixtures’ for the opens you are able to attend.
First up is Bath field fest on 02/04/17, entries close on Wednesday so there may still be chance to enter.
After our Sprints and Hurdles on 09/04/17 (if you are new to all this and were not quite sure weather to enter or not come along and watch and find out its not too frightening)! are the Mendip opens at Millfield on 4th and 25th May and the Bristol open on 23rd May.
Also worth a check are the Exeter Harriers ac & Cheltenham ac web sites for details of their opens, all of which are good events and give everyone opportunities to compete and push for selection for one of our teams in, Avon track and field, Youth Development or Midland, leagues.
On that note don’t forget to let the team managers for the YDL U17/U20 and Midland leagues (u17 and above) what dates and events you are available for. If you do not let them know how will they know you can compete?
Best of luck
Our penultimate event for the season will be the Sprints and Hurdles open at Yate on Sunday 06/09/15.
This is a popular meet, which always proves to be enjoyable weather you are looking for a final PB to finish off the season, coming back from injury, or may be your first event to see what it is all about ready for next season. Its definitely worth entering, and may be trying a new event, trying hurdles for the first time? All races are seeded by time so if you do not have one already you will be put in with others who do not have one either.
This is a week before the last Avon track and field, so it could be you want a run out before hand or your event is not covered in the last round of the AT&F, so its your last chance to do your favourite.
Entry forms are attached here so ensure you enter early to avoid the holiday mishaps and forget whilst you’re away!
We especially urge those who are not currently selected by team managers to enter as this is your opportunity to register your times for them to notice!
