The cost is £6 per event for one event, £12 for two events or £15 for three events. Spectators do have to pay £3 for the privilege of watching and there is parking available at 50p for the day – although arrive in good time as spaces are limited.

Midland Counties Athletic Association 2018 Indoor Meetings
Entries are now open for the first two Midland Counties Athletic Association indoor open meetings. The dates are January 6th/7th and January 27th/28th. An ‘open meeting’ means that any athlete registered with England Athletics through and affiliated Club, can take part – there are no minimum standards to reach before you can enter – and, in case you were wondering, Avon and Gloucestershire are officially part of the Midland Counties Athletic Association. These two opens are held in the High Performance Centre adjacent to the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. It’s a straightforward journey of around 1 hr 45 minutes. The HPC is a ‘smallish’ indoor venue but it does have a full 100m indoor track. There is plenty of free parking but you will need to take your own chairs! This is mainly an indoor competition, with events for the U13 age group and above, but it does include outdoor throws. The events on offer are:
Saturday 6th and 27th January: High Jump, Long Jump, Pole Vault, Triple Jump, Javelin, Hammer
Sunday 7th and 28th January: 60m, 60mH, Shot, Discus
The cost is £7 per event, and you get two races in both the 60m and 60mH events for your £7. Closing dates for online entry are 21st December for the first weekend and 12th January for the second weekend, although entries will close early if full capacity has been reached.
For more information, and to enter online, go to the Midland Counties Athletics Association website or follow the link:https://mcaa.athletics-uk.org/midlandcounties/2018/default.asp
Please note that the second day of the South West England championships for U13, U15 and U17 age groups in Cardiff is also on Saturday 6th January.
The indoor season will soon be with us , so here are two links to the Midland Counties AA (Birmingham) and Cardiff Met (Cardiff) both of whom put on great events. If you have never done anything like this before have a chat with your coach, but they are definitely worth having a go. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t enjoyed it!

Looking further ahead our Sprints and Hurdles will be held at Yate on 8th April 2018, entries fill up really quickly, so you will need to apply within hour/days of entries opening (we will let you know nearer the time), again put the date in your diary and talk to you coach about what events to do, but remember this is one of the first opportunities of getting a time registered on power of 10 so you know how winter training has gone and the Club Team Managers can see what events you do and forms the basis of their team selection process for the early league matches.
Entries are now open for the Welsh Athletics Junior Open Regional Championships Day 1, which incorporates the South West England indoor championships. This event takes place at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff on Sunday 3rd December and if you are looking for some early indoor competition over the winter this is the closest indoor arena to us (only around a 30-minute drive once you get across the Second Severn Crossing). It’s easy to get to and there are usually quite a few Yate athletes who go along.
The championships take place across two days (the second day is on Saturday 6th January). There are medals for the top three athletes in each age group from each region (South Wales, East Wales, South West England). As the turnout is often not huge from South West athletes, the chance of winning a medal can be pretty good! This year it seems that entry numbers for field events are capped at 40 athletes per event, with only 8 spaces allocated to South West England athletes. Entries close on November 17th.
The events available on December 3rd are:
U13 Girls – 200m, Long Jump, High Jump,
U15 Girls – 200m, 300m, Long Jump, High Jump
U17 Women – 200m, 300m, Shot Put, Triple Jump, High Jump
U13 Boys – 200m, Shot Put, High Jump
U15 Boys – 200m, 300m, Shot Put, High Jump
U17 Men – 200m, 400m, Shot Put, Triple Jump, High Jump
The cost is £6 per event for one or two events, and £5 per event if you enter three events. It is a well-run open, with parking on site for a small charge – arrive in good time though as it does get busy – seating for spectators, refreshments for sale as well as some small bits of kit, e.g. spikes, tape, rollers, and sometimes some clothing and shoes. There is usually a charge for spectators of around £3.
The entry process is quite straightforward – they are not even asking for an EA registration number! Go to Welshathletics.org/competitions or follow the link for more info and the online entry form: http://welshathletics.org/competitions/events/track–field/2017/december/welsh-athletics-junior-open–southeast-wales-regional-championships-day-1.aspx
