Jackie was a middle distance athlete competing on track, XC and road.
Coached by “Jock” and Glory Wassell, until 1990, when Jackie left the area to go to Manchester University. However she continued competing, on occasion, for the club for a few more years.
In 2018 Jackie (Mason) was still involved with athletics, acting as Secretary for the Junior section at Salford Harriers, where her three daughters compete at middle distance.
