Liam Hillier
Liam first began his Athletic career in 2010 at 8 years old, a year in the academy saw him joining Yate and District the following year.
As an athlete on the autistic spectrum, athletics suited him down to the ground, he was able to be a part of a team if he wished but equally could train by himself. He first took a liking to the Javelin before steadily moving around all the events and finding Pole Vault to be a firm favourite. Needless to say, the Decathlon followed.
Highlights for him included meeting Holly Bradshaw and training with her coach Scott Simpson, being county champion 2 years in a row, seeing his Lower YDL team reach the premiership and reaching Nationals with the Upper YDL team. Improving on his 2018 season by 40cm was also an achievement in 2019.
Not content with just being an athlete Liam then decided to become an assistant Coach where he could pass on some of his knowledge at the Academy sessions whilst also becoming a field official, completing the course and thoroughly enjoying giving back a little to the Lower Age Groups by officialing at their matches and then often competing the next day!
