No 34 – Spring 1996
Reports on the Gwent Cross-Country League and the revised club training night. Several Bronze medals won at the Midland Counties Indoor Championship. A club web site started by Phil Hull. Newsletters to be sent out automatically to paid up members. Club fixture list issued. News that the BAF are in financial crisis.
No 35 – Summer 1996
Report on the AGM. Approaches to be made to local clubs to investigate mergers or alliances. Thursday club nights are proving very popular and new training group structure working well. Yate athletes win 47 medals at Avon Track and Field Championship – 21 Gold, 14 Silver and 12 Bronze. Introduction of a chat column by ‘Jake’ and entitled ‘Lane 8’. Report on another press release – Northavon Council have succeeded in a lottery bid for new facilities and track re-surfacing. Zoe Derham takes up the Hammer and becomes one of the country’s top U17 throwers.
No 36 – Autumn 1996
Review of the track and field season – Mens Midland League team win promotion to division 4, Womens Midland League team reach the semi-finals of the Jubilee Cup and retain their league position in division 2 and the Boys and Girls National Young Athletes teams retain their league positions. The Track and Field County Championship is poorly supported. Zoe wins a silver medal in the Hammer at the AAA’s Championship. Jo Thorn and Paul Foster gain English Schools selection. Hannah Stares wins Gold
Heptathlon and Bronze at the Midland Counties Heptathlon. A plea for more coaches and officials.
No 37 – Winter 1996
Revision of the Midland Counties Track and Field Championship structure planned for 1997. The Avon Cross-Country Championship races are run in conjunction with Somerset and Gloucestershire. Good results from the club regulars. Gwent League results from a few but more runners needed to gain team results. An article on the athletics competition structure. Zoe Derham now ranked as No 1 UK U17 Hammer thrower. Work is supposed to start on the new facilities before the end of the Council’s financial year (31st March 1997). A second quiz night is planned for 21st February at Old Sodbury Village Hall
