BIO (written Jan 2020)
Luke started out in athletics at Yate AC academy at the age of 8 years. By 10 years old he was showing an interest and talent for jumping and joined the club’s high jump training group with coach Jeremy Dale. Luke began competing for Yate AC when he was 9 years old in Quadkids, then moving on to taking part in the Youth Development League for four years and in the Avon Track and Field League in both U13 and U 15 teams.
Luke has remained a committed and competitive athlete and has several club and league records, including the national Youth Development League U13 high jump record. In 2017 Luke was the UK top ranked U13 high jumper, and in 2019 he topped the rankings again as an U15, with a mark of 1.96m that placed him 9th on the ‘all time’ U15 rankings.
In 2019 Luke won 8 championship medals in high jump, including the prestigious English Schools Track and Field championships and the England National championships. At the end of this fantastic season Luke was awarded the South West Junior Male Field Athlete of the Year at the England Athletics South West Volunteer awards.
Not content just with high jump, Luke is also a talented multi-eventer who competes in pentathlon. In 2018 and 2019 Luke was the South West Schools Combined Event champion and went on to represent Avon both years at the English Schools National Combined Events final. In 2019, Luke finished in 5th place at this national competition, with a score that placed him 6th on the UK U15 pentathlon rankings.
