No 12 – April 1987
Report on AGM held at Yate Parish Hall on 6th March. Good results and press coverage. Work due to start on 8 lane all-weather track. Mens and Womens Midland League teams both gain promotion – Men 3rd consecutive year as league champions and Women 2nd year as runners-up. In the Avon league Yate finished as overall runners-up to Bristol with the Men taking the trophy from Bristol and Yate finishing runners-up in 6 other age categories. Matt Spicer and Gary Slade gained UK rankings and Gary ran against the USA in the 60m indoors sprint. Gary also gained a Long Jump PB of 7.32 in the AAA’s National U20 Championship. In the Avon Cross-Country Champs 24 Athletes won medals and 11 were selected to represent the County. The Amey Roadstone road races and Yate 5 mile and 10 mile races were held and weights and circuits sessions were continued on Monday evenings.
No 13 – June 1987
Avon track and field championship results – 11 gold, 21 silver and 4 bronze. Matt Spicer throws 63.54 in Hammer. Yate club is strong in field events. 13 road runners finished the London Marathon. Some club runners try fell running in Wales. Circuit training movrd from Yate Sports Centre to Chipping Sodbury School. Midland Counties track and field championship – silver medals won by Gary Slade, Matt Spicer, Charles Beresford and Richard Cranswick. Skittles match planned for 20th June at the Squire, Chipping Sodbury.
No 14 – October 1987
Track and field results – Senior Men win Midland Cup. Mens Midland team win the Division 5 championship (4th consecutive promotion). 36 medals won in the Avon County Championship. Gary Slade and Matt Spicer now ranked in UK top 6. Plans for Christmas Scamper, informal dinner at the Stagecoach and Annual Dinner/Dance at Stanshawes Court.
