2021 SPORTSHALL
COULD YOU BE ONE OF OUR NEXT SPORTSHALL TEAM MANAGERS?
Following our debut in 2019, we have once again been invited to take part in the Gloucestershire Sportshall League and we are looking for some volunteers to help make it happen.
Sportshall is an indoor form of track and field athletics for junior athletes, taking place during the winter months in the warmth of a sports hall. Athletes take part in lots of different events such as standing long jump/triple jump, speed bounce, sprint races, shot put, obstacle relay, hurdles, javelin etc.
It’s a lot of fun and a friendly competitive opportunity for those involved, giving a focus for the quieter early winter months. (For more info on Sportshall go to https://www.sportshall.org)
We can enter teams in the U11 (school years 5 and 6); U13 (school years 7 and 8); and U15 (school years 9 and 10) age groups.
A full team is a minimum of 6 athletes for U11s and 4 athletes for U13s and U15, although we can enter more than one team, or incomplete teams if needed.
We would love to take part in this league again. Our athletes had a fantastic time last time we competed and really benefitted from taking part. However, we will not be able to enter without a willing volunteer or volunteers, maybe a parent, who would be able to act as a team manager(s).
This role would simply be liaising with the league organiser; discussing with the academy coaches about which athletes to select for the teams; communicating with parents/athletes all the relevant information for the competition; and supporting the athletes at the competitions.
This role could be split between several volunteers, each taking a team, so the more volunteers, the less workload for everyone.
If you feel your young athlete would love to take part in Sportshall, then please do consider offering your services to make it happen!
Our committee will support you in the role, and our academy coaches will be able to provide training for the athletes in all the Sportshall events, but without anyone stepping up as team managers we will not be able to enter this league.
The Gloucestershire League dates are:
- Sunday 14th November – Brockworth Sportshall Centre
- Sunday 28th November – Rednock School, Dursley
- Sunday 19th December – Leisure@Cheltenham
The other clubs that take part in this league are Cheltenham, Gloucester, Forest of Dean, Tewkesbury and Dursley.
