Due to the British Target Sprint championships taking place this Saturday 9th September on the athletics track, there will not be the club training session from 11.00 am – 12.30 pm.
The only session taking place on Saturday is the Lodge Sports session from 10.00 -11.00 on the Astro.
Why not come along and support Josh Snook & Katie Robins in their first British Target Sprint National Championship Final.
Best of luck to our Yate and District AC team competing in the last Avon Track and Field League match at Gloucester on Sunday 10th. All support is very welcome as we aim to try and win the league for the third Year in a row. This year is very close and could go either way between us and Team Bath who are nip and tuck at the top.
Whilst we are still awaiting the official results for the AT&F competition on 9th July all I can say at the moments is it was a great day and a real team effort which everyone seemed to enjoy!
On the 15th July Team manager Sam took the YDL U13/15s to Cardiff for the regional Finals which in itself was a tremendous achievement, as we were only promoted last season! below is Sam email to the athletes which sums it all up.
‘want to say a massive thank you to each and every one of the athletes that competed in any event in any round throughout the season and tried their best. The competition was fierce yet still pb’s were achieved!! Some came and competed whilst feeling ill and injured, some tried events never done before and yet again some stood in last minute! You were all fantastic and behavior was professional and sporting.
Just a quick thank you for those members who turned up on Saturday to help get ready for the new season.
The Long/triple jump pits were swept and dug, new Discus, hammer, shot and Block racks were put together, new competition blocks sorted out, the sun even shone which is always a bonus. Thank you.
With our Sprints and Hurdles open having filled up so quickly, you may need some more ‘opens’ to attend, to get this years performances onto Power of 10. You can always check ‘power of 10’ ‘fixtures’ for the opens you are able to attend.
First up is Bath field fest on 02/04/17, entries close on Wednesday so there may still be chance to enter.
After our Sprints and Hurdles on 09/04/17 (if you are new to all this and were not quite sure weather to enter or not come along and watch and find out its not too frightening)! are the Mendip opens at Millfield on 4th and 25th May and the Bristol open on 23rd May.
Also worth a check are the Exeter Harriers ac & Cheltenham ac web sites for details of their opens, all of which are good events and give everyone opportunities to compete and push for selection for one of our teams in, Avon track and field, Youth Development or Midland, leagues.
On that note don’t forget to let the team managers for the YDL U17/U20 and Midland leagues (u17 and above) what dates and events you are available for. If you do not let them know how will they know you can compete?
Best of luck
Another beautiful day at Yate on 02/08/15 saw another excellent team result at the 3rd round of AT&F league, despite gaps due to holidays, it was great to see so many performances from athletes filling gaps as well as their own individual preferences, which seems to be making the difference this year.
Thanks must also go to the results team that are growing our reputation for well run efficient results at Yate. Also to Nicki Mead who despite a sore throat stepped in and was on the PA all day. As usual a full team of officials represented the club.
The points for the 3rd round are as below:
Yate 1015.5 points 1st
Team Bath 953 Points 2nd
North Somerset 815 Points 3rd
Gloucester 622.5 Points 4th
Forest of Dean 552 points 5th
Bristol and West 467.5 points 6th
Bitton 181 points 7th
This puts us in first overall for the series with only one to go on 13/09/15 so please ensure you are available and turn up if selected.
Thanks to all who competed, officiated, helped and made the whole day such a huge fun success

Avon Track & Field round 2 Gloucester 12/07/15
Well what a busy 8 days! On 12/07/15 we went to Gloucester for round 2 of the AT&F league meet, and witnessed another terrific performance by the team. Despite my muck up over times, (sorry Jamie and Jamie) we won! I cannot remember the last time we were first, as usually Team Bath take that honour, so well done to you all. Again there was a great team spirit, athletes from U11 to vets performing well, doing events outside their usual comfort zone, (and secretly enjoying it?) officials, team managers and parents/helpers all doing their essential bit. Results should be on line today but for now I have attached the team points. Next round is at home on 2nd August so please make sure you compete if selected and not on holiday!
YDL Lower age Group Yeovil 18/07/15
On Saturday 18th our U13 and U15 team went to Yeovil for the final round of the LAG YDL, the results are on line now but we believe as a team we came second! Another great team effort, with special mention to Tracy John for stepping in as team manager whilst Lesley was away supporting her daughter in the European age group Triathlon championships! Again a great team effort on the track and great fun off it and on the coach back!
South West Championships Exeter 19/07/15
Well done to all those who made the trip down to Exeter, this was ‘normal’ for some, but their biggest event yet for others and a great experience! Attached is the list of our athletes who competed and their positions (sorry if I missed anyone) the results were on line Monday morning which is pretty impressive! Well done to all our athletes and congratulations to all for their performances and those who medalled and stood on the podium/can claim to be SW Champions!
ESAA Finals @ Gateshead
Catching up on the finals at the ESAA National Championships @ Gateshead yesterday the results are as follows.
Inter Girls 1500m, all our girls got into the finals!
Ellie Wallace was 3rd in her heat in 4.45.17 then finished 4th in the final in 4.37.62 missing a medal by a mere 0.65 sec!
Hannah Hobbs was 5th in her heat in 4.46.14 and followed that up with 6th in the final in 4.38.95!
Ellie leather was 4th in her heat in 4.42.10 and 7th in the final in 4.39.41! An excellent result for all of them well done!
Daniel Brooks was 6th in the JB 100m final in 11.52, whilst Adam Brooks was 13th in the IB high jump final with 1.87m well done to them both. It is great to see so many of our athletes competing at National Finals to my reckoning thats 10!!! but please correct me if I have missed any one out.
AT&F
AT&F @ Gloucester 12/07/15, on a bright but windy and showery day we had a really great time! With many away at the ESAA National Final, it was great to see a mix of regular and new athletes in the team. What was also evident to see, as well as Pb’s and good performances was such a great team spirit, from the U11’s right through to the seniors, team managers and officials. Many athletes were also throwing or running distances not their first choice (or second or third)! as well as their preferred event & it was really fantastic to see the end result with our ladies winning the U15, U17 and senior 4*100m relay! for example. We won’t mention any one by name as you all did so well for the team, but all we can say is thank you very much to all the athletes, team managers, parents, helpers and officials, we hope you enjoyed the day.
Results are not out yet but as soon as they are we will let you know. Next round is back at home @ Yate on 02/08/15 please respond asap to team selections and make it even better!
The provisional results are now on the AT&FL web site (these can be accessed through our website). We have started the season well, just being pipped into second place by Team Bath but it was close, with a bit of luck we could have come first! There was a real buzz about YOSC on Sunday and despite the chilly weather and head wind down the back straight there were some good performances. This was a really good ‘TEAM’ effort though, from our officials, (we loose points if we do not have enough), team managers, parents and athletes. What was outstanding on Sunday was the extra efforts being made, from Athletes who are starting their exams today, being so focused they did an event then went back to revising in a quiet spot somewhere, those senior athletes turning up in force to form the largest senior team for some time, to those who competed up an age or in an event they would definitely not claim is their favourite, not forgetting to mention those who competed for the first time!
The quad kids team also played their part with new athletes representing the club for the first time, despite two disappointed athletes, ill on the day, there were still some great performances, with Adam winning every event he was in, but again a ‘TEAM’ effort story similar to the older teams, great performances, (even in non preferred events) parental support, team manages and officials all doing their bit.
Thank you to every one who played their part, good luck with your exams over the coming weeks, and hope you are not to sore today for those that did something out of their usual comfort zone!!!
Next AT&F is @ Gloucester on 12/07/15 so make a note in your diary, we will need a full team to move up a place!
