Message from Sam Hillier Smith re LAG YDL Yate 20/05/17

22/05/2017/in YDL/by Jeremy Dale

Yet again I want to say a massive thank you to all the athletes that competed and tried their best. Some came and competed whilst feeling ill, some tried events never done before and some stood in last minute! You were all fantastic and your behaviour was professional and sporting. Weather was not great and proved difficult for many events, you all coped really well!

Thank you to the athletes that came and were mini coaches to other athletes, even if they hadn’t been selected, it showed amazing team spirit, support and maturity… which will be remembered…

Thank you to the officials and coaches that helped and supported all athletes and helped the day to run smoothly.

It looks as though we may finish 3rd this time which is fantastic as we were only 2 points away from 2nd place! Overall we may still be holding onto 2nd… If we finish in 1st, 2nd or 3rd next round we go to the Regional final in Cardiff, the top 2 teams that finish there will go to National Final at Birmingham Alexander Stadium – so all hands on deck!

Athletes: Well done for all your efforts but can I remind you all that it doesn’t matter whether you wear 6, 66 or have a different number… all you can EVER do is achieve a personal best… you are all individual and it’s super important to me that you aim to better yourselves rather than feel you have to win points… Not every round will go as you want it too but that’s all part of the learning curve of athletics and competing – never give up!

Parents: Thank you for your continued support and flexibility in bringing your amazing athletes to the competitions! The next round is SUNDAY 18TH JUNE which is Fathers Day!! @ Cheltenham. Please can I have availability confirmed ASAP as the team gets revised every round depending on performance and availability.

Any questions as always please grab me at the track or email me. Well done everyone once again. Team selections will come out quicker this time to give you all chance of practising your events!

Sam Hillier-Smith
AKA a very proud team manager!

YDL LAG this Saturday at YATE 20/05/17

16/05/2017/in YDL/by Jeremy Dale

Bristol and West host the second round of the LAG YDL this Saturday at Yate.

Therefore there will not be a club session or earlier coaching on the track. The only session that will be taking place is the Lodge sports session from 10.00 -11.00 on the All Weather Pitch.

The YDL action starts at 10.30 so why not come along and support or help out.

YDL U13/U15

For those of you not aware, we competed in our first YDL Premier Division League Match for under U13/U15 at Yate on 22/04/17.

After gaining promotion last year, the competition was certainly a higher standard than last year, but we more than held our own! Below is the email Sam Hillier Smith sent out that evening, which sums it all up.

” To all athletes

Can I just say a Mahoosive THANK YOU to EVERYONE for today.

Thank you to the athletes that came and “had a go” for the team…

Thank you to the athletes that came for just one event…

Thank you to the parents and family members that gave up their day…

Thank you to the coaches that helped through out the day with supporting athletes…

Thank you to the officials that made sure the events ran well…

Thank you to all the volunteers that helped with scoring , announcing, setting up and tidying away all the equipment…

I’ve not long got home and Guess what?

WE FINISHED SECOND!!!!!

Could not of done it without each and everyone of you…The next round is at our home ground again on Saturday 20th May… Athletes please let me know your availability asap as I’m already working on the team!

Come find me at the track if you need too and check the power of 10 in a couple of days for results.

So proud of each and every athlete trying their best and being professional and friendly in their behavior and performance.

Sam Hillier-Smith

Yate and District Team Manager”

Our thanks should also go to Sam who worked tirelessly putting the team together and worked with all the athletes and officials on the day!

YDL U17/U20

The next weekend (30/04/17) saw us compete in the YDL U17/U20 Premier League Match, where we are part of ‘Team Avon’ made up of athletes from Yate and District AC, Bristol and West, Team Bath, North Somerset.

Yet again we did well by winning!! This sets us up well for the contest to reach regional finals but we have to keep this up over the next two matches to progress! So lets get as many Yate athletes as possible in the team

It is some times not appreciated, that athletes who are U17 and above, need to let the team managers know of their availability for selection. Team managers are, for the male team, Sandra Woodman and  females, Jim Strudwick.

Whilst they have sent out availability forms to club members earlier in the year,  you may have been missed or  you may  have missed the notification, please contact them and let them know if you are available for future competitions.

Their contact details and details of the matches are on our web site under ‘Competition Structure’ or on the information booklets given out when you joined.

Please note this process also applies to Midland League matches (U17 and above but throwing adult weights etc) where you need to let Matt Muggerridge know of your availability.

Thanks for reading this best of luck in your competitions and for future selection.

Thank you

27/03/2017/in Avon Track and Field, Chairmans message, Midland League, Open Meeting, Yate Sprints & Hurdles, YDL/by Jeremy Dale

Just a quick thank you for those members who turned up on Saturday to help get ready for the new season.

The Long/triple jump pits were swept and dug, new Discus, hammer, shot and Block racks were put together, new competition blocks sorted out, the sun even shone which is always a bonus. Thank you.

With our Sprints and Hurdles open having filled up so quickly, you may need some more ‘opens’ to attend, to get this years performances onto Power of 10. You can always check ‘power of 10’ ‘fixtures’ for the opens you are able to attend.

First up is Bath field fest on 02/04/17, entries close on Wednesday so there may still be chance to enter.

After our Sprints and Hurdles on 09/04/17 (if you are new to all this and were not quite sure weather to enter or not come along and watch and find out its not too frightening)! are the Mendip opens at Millfield on 4th and 25th May and the Bristol open on 23rd May.

Also worth a check are the Exeter Harriers ac & Cheltenham ac web sites for details of their opens, all of which are good events and give everyone opportunities to compete and push for selection for one of our teams in, Avon track and field, Youth Development or Midland, leagues.

On that note don’t forget to let the team managers for the YDL U17/U20 and Midland leagues (u17 and above) what dates and events you are available for. If you do not let them know how will they know you can compete?

Best of luck

Jeremy Dale

24 of our athletes are currently at the South West schools Championship in Exeter. Out of a 100 strong Avon team that’s a pretty good showing!
Tomorrow the third LAG YDL is being held at the Wise Campus at Filton, I think we have won both the previous two, so go on down and support our team! Best of luck to everyone at Exeter today and wise tomorrow we will let you know the results asap.

Avon Track & Field round 2 Gloucester 12/07/15

Well what a busy 8 days! On 12/07/15 we went to Gloucester for round 2 of the AT&F league meet, and witnessed another terrific performance by the team. Despite my muck up over times, (sorry Jamie and Jamie) we won! I cannot remember the last time we were first, as usually Team Bath take that honour, so well done to you all. Again there was a great team spirit, athletes from U11 to vets performing well, doing events outside their usual comfort zone, (and secretly enjoying it?) officials, team managers and parents/helpers all doing their essential bit. Results should be on line today but for now I have attached the team points. Next round is at home on 2nd August so please make sure you compete if selected and not on holiday!

Combined team results

YDL Lower age Group Yeovil 18/07/15

On Saturday 18th our U13 and U15 team went to Yeovil for the final round of the LAG YDL, the results are on line now but we believe as a team we came second! Another great team effort, with special mention to Tracy John for stepping in as team manager whilst Lesley was away supporting her daughter in the European age group Triathlon championships! Again a great team effort on the track and great fun off it and on the coach back!

South West Championships Exeter 19/07/15

Well done to all those who made the trip down to Exeter, this was ‘normal’ for some, but their biggest event yet for others and a great experience! Attached is the list of our athletes who competed and their positions (sorry if I missed anyone) the results were on line Monday morning which is pretty impressive! Well done to all our athletes and congratulations to all for their performances and those who medalled and stood on the podium/can claim to be SW Champions!

New club Session, YDL & South West Champs

08/07/2015/in SW Champs, Training sessions, YDL/by Jeremy Dale

New Saturday Morning Club Session from 11.00 ’til 12.00 Noon

Due to the growing popularity of the Saturday Morning session the club has decided to book the track from 11..00am ’til 12.00 noon as another regular club session. Cost will be £2 for the hour, payable at the start (volunteers please to collect money), please check with your coach weather they will be there or what session they want you to do.

YDL UAG Swansea Sunday 26/07/15

Sandrea and Rachael have asked all those selected for the next UAG match on 26/07/15 at Swansea to make a special effort to compete. We are in a position to potentially make the final this year so every point counts. There will be a coach there (and back)! so transport is not a problem. Reaching the National Final would be a real achievement and experience, please do your bit if asked. Thank you.

South West Champs Sunday 19/07/15 @ Exeter

For those of you who have entered or yet to (entries held open until 10th July) Sam Hillier is looking at hiring a mini bus if there are enough numbers interested contact 07917 693383 or email sam.ac.coach@gmail.com if you are interested.

Busy Weekend!

29/06/2015/in Yate Athletic Club News, YDL/by Jeremy Dale

Following last weekends LAG YDL we have just had another busy weekend for our athletes, with Sofie Anderson, Jack Moore & Abi Robson at Yeovil for the Combined Events County Championships, and our UAG members representing Team Avon in the YDL match on Sunday, I noticed a PB by Lexi Bond in the triple jump. Well done to all our Club members.

On another note, after seeing some of our athletes being selected for County & Country, it is great to see our coaches getting in on the act!

Mark Lodge has been selected as part of the GB coaching team for the CPISRA World Games this August, it is great to see his effort and commitment being recognised and this follows his selection as throws coach at the Invictus games & award of ‘Professional coach of the year’  from South Gloucestershire Council last year. Well done Mark, we will expect photos and a report please!
