As we start to get used to how we can better display our news items on this website, here is a small roundup of some of the things that have happened over the last couple of months…
With Spring finally here, we can start to look forward to the outdoor season.
There are plenty of “Open Meetings” lined up locally in the next couple of months, providing you the chance to record a time/distance/height..
Dear athlete and parent,Following from our communication on Yate AC website and our newsletter on 31st January, you will be aware that Mark Lodge and Phil Lucker have set up their own Athletics club. Due to this it has been agreed that Phil and Mark will no longer be coaching for us/Yate AC at the 7.00-8.30 Tuesday and Thursday evening club sessions, this is to avoid a potential conflict. We appreciate that this can be disruptive to athletes and do understand the bond between athlete and coach can be special. We apologise for not communicating with you sooner but as you can imagine we had lots of things to get sorted in a short time!
We thank Mark and Phil for all their contributions over the past many years. Mark and his family have spent many hours supporting YOSC and the athletes for this we are greatly appreciative.
Yate have many other coaches who are all ready to talk with you to discuss your training needs at the times when Mark and Phil would have been coaching. Please do come along as usual to your Tuesday and Thursday training sessions where one of the Yate coaches led by Jeremy Dale will be available to help you meet the other coaches and discuss your individual training and competing ambitions.
Do feel free to grab anyone in a Yate AC green jumper if you would like to discuss anything further or have any concerns.
Many thanks
Yate and District AC
31st January 2018
You may have recently heard that Yate & District AC coaches Mark Lodge and Phil Lucker have decided to form a new Club. We wish them all the best in their new venture and thank them for all their great contribution to our club over the years.
For our part, following last year’s success in YDL, Midland League and Avon Track and Field, the club is looking forward to a busy and exciting year ahead. Before our track closes for a £800,000 refurbishment, at the end of July we are planning to celebrate our 35 year anniversary.
As well as our usual Sprints and Hurdles competition, Yate AC are also planning a Jumps and Throws Open in March and hosting three other Opens on Wednesday evenings in partnership with Bristol & West AC and Avon AA.
We are actively exploring alternative arrangements for when our track will be out of action. Although this may cause some temporary disruption we will try to minimise this. However, we firmly believe it to be worth it and see it as fundamental in securing the long-term future of the club at YOSC.
This is a tremendously exciting time and we would like to thank our members for their continued support, whether it be coaching, training, officiating, competing, team managing or general assistance, in making Yate & District AC a vibrant and successful community club. Should you wish to get involved we have a number of volunteer opportunities, please contact one of the committee members for more details.
Yate & District Athletic Club
Firstly we have just had confirmation that Chris Jones CEO of England athletics is visiting Yate and District AC on Tuesday evening 26th September 2017! There is no set format, he will arrive before 7.00 pm and be escorted around looking at our facilities, watching training, meeting coaches and athletes alike. I appreciate some groups are on a break but it would be great to have the track looking busy if possible. Photos and an article will then appear in the EA news letter in the near future. Please support this evening if you can
Now we’re getting really close to the start of the season, we need to make sure that the track and surrounding areas are ready to host our first events. As you probably already know, Yate Outdoor Sports Complex is run by volunteers from the club, and so we need your help and support to make sure that we’re ready.
So, we’d like to invite you all to come along on the afternoon of Saturday 25th March to get stuck into clearing the banks, cleaning the stands, repairing and painting the jumping boards, cleaning out the steeple chase pit, raking the sandpits, greasing the hurdle weights, extending the shot put demarcations…….and loads more!
The long term weather forecast is looking bright and sunny for Yate on Saturday (no honestly it really is!), so why not stay after training and join us for the afternoon?
And if you’ve not already done so – bring your completed membership forms with you – renewals need to be in by the end of March if you want to compete in April!
Looking for some sparkle? Why not come and join us at our amazing sports complex for an awesome firework display! Gates open at 6.30pm with the display commencing at 8.30pm, food will be available and the bar open! Come and join us in safety and help us raise money for Southmead Intensive Care.

EVERYONE WELCOME! TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE BAR…
